John is a versatile artist whose long career has allowed him to master both the artistry and the technical skills of the craft. His fascination with Tattoos and artistry began when he was young, waiting each year for Halloween when his dad would draw tattoos on his arms to match his outfits. As he grew older, he went into the family’s carpentry business, but the lasting impression of his youth stayed with him. John got his first tattoo in 1985 and developed a friendship with his artist. In 1992, that friendship and his early interest in tattoo art grew into an apprenticeship, where John continued carpentry during the day and… Read MoreRead More
Some of my best memories growing up are rooted in my Dad’s shop. Around age 6 I started spending time in the shop, watching my Dad and picking up tricks and hints from the artists that worked in the shop. Most kids that age wanted to be astronauts or police officers, I wanted to be a tattoo artist. In 2007 I started my tattoo apprenticeship under my father John, learning the technical and artist aspects of the trade. In 2008 I earned a chair at Vanity and have been here since, working alongside great artists. I’ve learned during my 10 years as a tattoo artist that every style of tattoo… Read MoreRead More
While Alex is adept at creating any style of tattoos, he really enjoys Traditional, Oriental and Floral style tattoos. He can create masterpieces of your imagination, whether it’s black and grey or full color. His interest in tattoos started at a young age. While most children are busy coloring in coloring books, Alex would design his own creations and spend hours coloring them in, unknowingly practicing his intricate linework and colorful shading well before his adventure in the tattoo arts began. Alex did his apprenticeship in the northwest suburbs starting in 2008, which is where the unrealized mastery in coloring from his early years took shape. For the next year… Read MoreRead More
Between the years when the oceans drank Atlantis and rise of the sons of Aryas, there was an age undreamed of, when shining kingdoms laid spread across the world. Hither came Rob Downs the Cimerrian, pencil in hand. It is I, his chronicler, who knows well his saga. Now, let me tell you of the days of high adventure... The year was 1980, Queens ‘Another One Bites the Dust’ was on the radio. By the middle of May, Mount St. Helens experienced a huge eruption that created avalanches, explosions, large ash clouds, mudslides, and massive damage to the surrounding area. A total of 57 people were killed as a result… Read MoreRead More
Punk Rock, Skateboarding and Tattoos! My great grand pappy was a tattooist and Carnival man who rode the sideshow circuit with the likes of Wild Bill. A legacy of Americana and tattoo life-style was forged as my roadmap for generations before me. The fact that I was born into an artistic rumination and fascinated with tattooing from an early age almost goes without saying. I tell people when they ask how I got into tattooing that I have an art background but the fact that I went to college for visual arts and participated in fine art gallery scenes for many years it's not precisely what I mean to convey… Read MoreRead More
